Sunday June 22. Wrangell - Ketchikan - ports beyond. The ship stops at
Petersburg and Wrangell early this morning. It will stop in Ketchikan this
afternoon. I have come two hundred and thirty-five miles south of Juneau
since last night .

I find that I am enjoying the comforts of the plush lounge chairs and the relaxed pace of the cruise. It is nice to be out of the cold wind and rain of past several days. I realize taking to ferry south bound was an excellent decision. If I had taken it on it's northbound route- when I was all fired-up and ready to ride- I would have gone crazy at this pace. Now, the pace suits me fine and I am glad to get a break from riding. We are only a few hundred yards from the shoreline. I sit with my binoculars and look for eagles, whales and bears.
Arrive in Ketchikan around noon. As the ship approaches we are greeted by sea
planes. [pic] I walk the two miles into town. It looks likes
Ketchikan is a
place I could come back to visit. I appears you need a sea plane to do just about any
type of business in this part of the world.
As the ship leaves port, eagles can be seen in the nearby trees. [pic] Ketchikan is the final port until I reach Bellingham, thirty seven hours away. I finish reading a good book entitled "Working on the Edge" by Spike Walker. The book is about surviving in the world's most dangerous job: king crab fishing on Alaska's high seas. It's a cool book to read while on a small ship touring Alaskan waters.
